Celtic God Cernunnos Wall Mount Candleholder Horned
Cernunnos, known to the
Celts as "The Horned One", is the stag antlered God of the Forest, God
of Prosperity and God of the Underworld. He often carried a bag filled
with coins, and was purported to be a shape-shifter, with the ability
to turn himself into any animal. His antlers are regarded as symbols of
virility and fertility. The Horned God is born at the winter solstice,
marries the goddess at Beltane, and dies at the summer solstice,
representing the growing season and bountiful harvests.
This
wall mounted candle holder of Cernunnos is from Dryad Designs and
artist Paul Borda. It is a cold cast resin replica of the original,
which took over 300 hours to complete. Cernunnos is shown as a
contented God, with holly on one side of his face, oak leaves, acorns
and mistletoe on the other, a rams-headed snake coiled atop his head,
and seven coins with symbols of Cernunnos are hidden throughout the
piece. The candle holder stands 13 inches tall, is 12 inches wide, and
is 4 inches deep. It has 3 places at the top for inserting taper
candles. It is finished to give it the appearance of stone. The detail
on the piece is incredible, from the torc around his neck to the individual
hairs in his eyebrows. It's a gorgeous showpiece for your home.
